The Kalimera Kalimero Theatre, under the artistic auspices of KYKLOS, presents on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 21:30, at the Ai-Giannis Detis Park Theatre, the performance “Medea”, a theatrical interpretation of the timeless myth, inspired by the works of Euripides, Seneca, Corneille, Anouilh, Müller, and Pasolini.
In this dynamic and contemporary version, four actors bring Medea to life through a polyphonic narrative. One actress exclusively portrays Medea — a magical, mythical, and tragic figure. The other actors shift roles, alternating between characters and narrators, observing the action, commenting on it, and reinterpreting the myth through a modern lens.
The performance is multilingual, with French as the dominant language, while other languages are also heard, reflecting the actors’ diverse backgrounds. This theatrical multilingualism, influenced by the work of Eugenio Barba and Odin Teatret, highlights the theme of the “foreigner” and gives the tragedy a global dimension. At the same time, it resonates with the cosmopolitan character of Paros and the tradition of cultural encounters that defines the Aegean.
Medea is at the center: a woman, a mother, an exile, a “sorceress,” a demigoddess — a mythical figure who embodies the collective human experience. The other characters confront and observe her, at times as a person, at times as a symbol, and at times as an inexplicable phenomenon.
The performance echoes an ancient tragedy, with the narrators acting as a chorus, messengers, or commentators — not as analysts, but as bearers of the story and at the same time beyond it — allowing the myth to become the story of us all.
The text is clear and concise, free from excessive mythological references, with some repetitions in different languages to enhance clarity and impact.
“Medea” is not a simple revival. It is a journey through myth, memory, and identity. A living theatre that speaks to the heart of today’s audience.
