- Paros Park Theater Ai-Yiannis Detis
One of this summer’s most significant theatrical productions. Euripides’ iconic “Medea” is being presented at the Ai-Yiannis Detis Park Theater, directed by the internationally renowned Nikita Milivojević and starring Karyofyllia Karabeti in the title role.
Twenty-nine years after her legendary performance as Medea, Karyofyllia Karabeti returns to one of the most significant roles in ancient drama, portraying a woman who loved completely and was driven to utter ruin.
Nikita Milivojević, one of the most important European directors of his generation and well-known to Greek audiences for his outstanding work on ancient Greek literature, approaches *Medea* with clarity and inner strength, shedding light on the human dimension of the myth. The production maintains the classical framework of Euripides’ text, while at the same time highlighting the timeless intensity of a play that continues to speak to the present day.
Medea remains strikingly relevant. It speaks of love and betrayal, exile, dignity, and the limits of human endurance. She is not portrayed as a mythical monster, but as a deeply human being who reaches the ultimate point of conflict with herself and the world.
The play stars Karyofyllia Karabeti, Lazaros Georgakopoulos, Aris Lembesopoulos, Tasos Sotirakis, and Reni Pittaki, supported by a large cast and live music on stage featuring an original composition by Dimitris Kamarotos.
The performance takes place in the unique natural setting of the Paros Environmental & Cultural Park, on the protected peninsula of Ai-Yiannis Detis. Where the Cycladic landscape meets culture, the Festival in the Park continues to host leading productions from theater, music, and the performing arts, offering the audience unique experiences under the summer sky of the Aegean.
