It is 1987, and the first mass movement in the West Bank is gaining momentum. In the village of filmmaker Amer Somali, in Beit Sahour, a suburb of Bethlehem, activists decide to start a cooperative dairy farm. They buy 18 cows from an Israeli kibbutz and transport them to the West Bank. Through trial and error, the fledgling “milk-tivists” eventually succeed, and the population now depends on this “Intifada milk.” But this act of defiance does not go unnoticed...
Through stop-motion animation, drawings and interviews, directors Amer Somali and Paul Cowan recreate an astonishing true story: the Israeli army's pursuit of eighteen cows, whose independent milk production on a Palestinian collective farm was declared "a threat to the national security of the state of Israel."
