The iconic performance by Dimos Avdeliodis, which became a landmark in Greek theater, returns in a renewed version with Giorgos Nikopoulos in the lead role, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 21:30, at the Theater of the Park Aï-Giannis Detis.
“The Only Journey of His Life”, adapted and directed by Dimos Avdeliodis, with original music by Vangelis Yiannakis, is the captivating autobiographical story of Georgios Vizyinos. The play enchants audiences of all ages through the power of language and the emotional richness that floods the narrative—from fear and vertigo to unexpected, liberating humor.
It evokes the emotions of both real and imagined journeys experienced at the age of ten, when the young Vizyinos, accompanied by a relative entrusted to him by his mother, arrives in Constantinople and begins working as an apprentice tailor under a harsh, unapproachable master.
While the play is filled with striking and little-known ethnographic elements of a bygone era, it remains a timeless and immortal masterpiece, a noble expression of humanistic Hellenism. It offers multiple layers of meaning, the most profound being the essential and original concept of Art—from the moment of inspiration to the realization of a work—crafted here as if it were a charming folktale told to him by his grandfather.
